Distribution of the Ancient Murrelet in North America. Nesting colonies are locally distributed along the coastline of its year-round range; areas near some colonies may be temporarily vacated in late summer after breeding. Northern reaches of winter range tend to hold nonbreeding individuals year-round. This species also breeds in Asia. See text for details.
