Priorities for Future Research
Introduction
The Amethyst-throated Hummingbird is a common and widespread species, yet there are large knowledge gaps on much of its life history. There is almost no information on its reproductive biology. Future research is needed in the area of population demography, such as age at first breeding, life span, survivorship, dispersal, and population regulation. Field work also is needed in southern and western Mexico to clarify the relationships of the blue-throated margaritae subspecies with sympatric or parapatric rose-throated populations.
