Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

Ancash Tapaculo is locally fairly common, but has a restricted distribution, and, like other species of Scytalopus, has furtive habits; most aspects of the natural history remain undocumented. There is only minimal information on its diet and reproductive biology. Its plumage sequence is not known in any detail. There also is no information on topics such as age at first breeding, life span and survivorship, dispersal, home range and population density, or population regulation. Efforts also should be made to better document the distribution of Ancash Tapaculo, and to determine if (or where) it comes into contact with other species of high Andean tapaculos (e.g, Unicolored Tapaculo Scytalopus unicolor or Blackish Tapaculo Scytalopus latrans).
