Conservation
Conservation Status
Least Concern. This species is considered fairly common throughout much of its broad range, and is presumed to have stable populations, with no evidence to the contrary (BirdLife International 2012).
The relative abundance of Andean Hillstar usually is assessed as common (Fjeldså and Krabbe 1990) or fairly common (Schulenberg et al. 2010).
Effects of human activity on populations
None described. This species is often found in settlements in appropriate habitat (Jaramillo 2003), and seems to make frequent use man-made structures for shelter and nesting, such as mine tunnels and stone huts (Pearson 1953, Carpenter 1976).
