Diet and Foraging

Diet

The diet of Andean Tinamou is not known in much detail. Apparently this tinamous feeds on seeds, shoots, buds and small fleshy fruits, cultivated crops (including potatoes and barley), as well as insects, especially beetles and orthopterans (Liebermann 1936, Cabot 1992). Also swallows pebbles, presumably to help in grinding up the food (Cabot 1992).
