Introduction

This species account is dedicated to the memory of Mateo Matamala, who, with his girlfriend Margarita Gómez, was inexplicably murdered while exploring field sites in northern Colombia in January 2011. Mateo Matamala at Tatamá National Park, Colombia, October 2010. © Victor Gamarra-ToledoMateo prepared a first draft of this species account as an exercise for Daniel Cadena's ornithology class at Universidad de los Andes in late 2010. The students and professor in the class completed this account in honor of our fallen friend, colleague and classmate, who will forever be missed. The photo shows Mateo during our class field trip to Tatamá National Park, western Colombia, in October 2010. Memories of Mateo during that trip, during our course, and during many other experiences we shared with him will always be with us.
