Breeding

Introduction

Breeding of Barred Parakeet is unknown in the wild. Presumably the nest is in a cavity in a tree, as is the most usual pattern for parrots. A specimen in breeding condition from Colombia was collected in August (Hilty and Brown 1986). In captivity, only the female incubates, and the nestling period is five weeks (Collar 1997).
