Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

Barred Parakeet is widespread, but is difficult to observe, and its biology is poorly known. Perhaps the principal priority is to develop a better understanding of the nature and frequency of its movements, as Barred Parakeet often is described as nomadic; it is difficult to quantify its population size or to identify breeding sites if is not known where the species truly is resident, and where it occurs only seasonally or irregularly. Its diet is not well known, and to extent to which it may (or may not!) be reliant on seeding bamboo (Chusquea) also is not known.
