Conservation
Conservation Status
Band-tailed Nighthawk has a very large geographic range, and so althought its population trend is believed to be decreasing, its IUCN Red List conservation status is assessed as Least Concern (BirdLife International 2014).
In portions of its range, Band-tailed Nighthawk can be locally common to abundant (Hilty and Brown 1986, Hilty 2003), although its distribution is very patchy in western Amazonia, where there are many fewer blackwater rivers (Whitney et al. 2003).
Effects of human activity on populations
Band-tailed Nighthawk probably is little affected by human activity, although like many species it is threatened in the long term by deforestation in Amazonia (BirdLife International 2014).
