Introduction

Nests are made of sticks, and nesting sites have been reported to be high above ground. Strauch (1975) recorded one such nest near the Rio Bayano in Panama, about 40 m high. These heights may help the Black-and-white Hawk-Eagle to survey the surroundings of the nesting site. Strauch also observed a nesting pair constructing a nest at the onset of the rainy season, which at the time was uncharacteristically dry, but the nest may have later been abandoned as the heavy rains began.
