Introduction
The red-legged and all-dark Berlepsch’s Tinamou is confined to extreme northwest South America, where it is found from northwest Colombia south to northwest Ecuador, and is therefore endemic to the Chocó Center of Endemism. This species formerly was classifed as a well-marked subspecies of Cinereous Tinamou (Crypturellus cinereus) of Amazonia. It inhabits very wet tropical forest, mainly below 600 m. Berlepsch's Tinamou generally is considered to be reasonably common, especially in Colombia, although like all tinamous it is far more often heard than seen; consequently almost nothing is known about the biology of this species.
