Distribution

Distribution in the Americas

Distribution outside the Americas

Endemic to the Americas.

Habitat

Bearded Wood-Partridge occurs in humid montane evergreen forests and adjacent pine-oak forest, secondary forests, forest edges and gardens, and sometimes visits farmland in clearings (Binford 1989, Howell and Webb 1995).

Fragmented populations are restricted to vegetation along creeks and rivers (Fuller et al. 2000).

Historical changes

Formerly Bearded Wood-Partridge was considered to be common in the vicinity of Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, and in central Hidalgo (Johnsgard 1999). Recent studies in these regions documented the species to be uncommon (Howell and Webb 1992, Eitniear et al. 2000, Martinez-Morales 2007), or, in the case of southeastern San Luis Potosí, possibly extirpated (Howell and Webb 1995).
