Buff-fronted Quail-Dove Zentrygon costaricensis

Also sometimes known as the Costa Rican Quail-Dove, after the species name of costaricensis, the range of Buff-fronted Quail-Dove extends from the highlands of Costa Rica into western Panama. The English name Buff-fronted Quail-Dove refers to most conspicuous identification feature of this species, the buff or pinkish buff forecrown. The rest of the head and underparts are largely gray, with a black line from the throat to the ear coverts, and dark reddish brown upperparts suffused with purple. It prefers montane evergreen forest, where Buff-fronted Quail-Dove is found at elevations of 1000 to 3000 m, feeding on the ground in singles or loosely associated pairs. Apparently, the species is most numerous at higher altitudes. This quail-dove apparently feeds on fruits, seeds and probably insects, but few specific or detailed data have been published on its diet or any other aspect of the ecology of the species.
