Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

Black Tinamou is a rarely seen, poorly known species of tinamou, with secretive habits. Most aspects of its life history still are undescribed. There is almost no information on the diet and reproductive biology of Black Tinamou, and no information at all on such topics as age at first breeding, life span and survivorship, dispersal, population regulation, social behavior, territoriality, population density, and sexual behavior. Perhaps the highest priorities for research, however, are to better document the geographical distribution and population density of Black Tinamou, and to assess the taxonomic status of the two, highly disjunct populations.
