Introduction
Currently considered Vulnerable under IUCN criteria, Brown-banded Antpitta's known range is a tiny area within Colombia's Central Andes, a region that is subject to considerable habitat loss and degradation. Fortunately, several of the few locations where it occurs protected from ever expanding agricultural development. Brown-banded Antpitta occurs in early second growth, the understory of old Alnus plantations, and the understory of tall secondary forest, at elevations between 1800 and 3140 m. Its behavior appears typical of the genus, but to date rather little is known of the life history of this species. Brown-banded Antpitta is a uniform dark brown Grallaria above, with dingy white lores, throat and belly, and a broad, brown breast band and flanks.
