Behavior

Introduction

The Blue-crowned Motmot is a sit-and-wait predator, perching still in the understory, then sallying to the ground or to foliage to capture prey or snatch fruit. Prey often is held in the bill and subdued by beating the prey against the perch (Skutch 1964). May accompany army ants (Skutch 1964).

Often swings the tail abruptly from side to side, especially when disturbed.
