Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

The Capped Heron is one of the least known herons. Although some information is available on its feeding habits, much of this is based on individual accounts and low sample sizes. Almost nothing is known of its survivorship, nesting biology, courtship, family structure, or home range. Kushlan and Hancock (2005) suggests using individually marked or telemetred birds to determine population density and a more well-defined range.
