Breeding

Introduction

Eggs are found from December to March, and also in May (Johnson 1967, Fjeldså and Krabbe 1990). Nesting is colonial, "in loose colonies of up to several hundred pairs in the midst of the forest, often in such places as bamboo thickets on steep slopes difficult of access" (Johnson 1967). The nests are "mere rudimentary platforms of twigs with the the showing through in all directions" (Johnson 1967; see also Lane 1897). The usual clutch is a single egg, but "in years of abundant food sometimes 2" (Johnson 1967). Egg dimensions are 39.6 x 29.7 mm (Johnson 1967).
