SPECIES

Choco Tinamou Crypturellus kerriae

Vitor Gomes
Version: 1.0 — Published March 27, 2015

Behavior

Introduction

Choco Tinamou forages on the ground, but otherwise the behavior of this species is very poorly known. As is typical of forest tinamous, it is shy and seen only infrequently. When flushed, it rises in rapid flight (Wetmore and Galindo 1972).

Territoriality

There is no information on territorial defense, maintenance, or fidelity for Choco Tinamou. At one site in Colombia, 10-15 singing individuals were encountered along a ca 3 km length of trail (Porteus and Acevedo 1996).

Sexual Behavior

Undescribed for Choco Tinamou. From what is known of the breeding system of other species, "the general rule among tinamous is simultaneous polygyny for males and sequential polyandry for females" (Cabot 1992).

Social and interspecific behavior

Little information. Presumably Choco Tinamou primarily is solitary, as in other forest tinamous.

Predation

No reports of predation on Choco Tinamou?
