Distribution

Distribution in the Americas

Choco Tinamou is resident in extreme southeastern Panama and northwestern Colombia. Currently it is known from only a few localities, although much of this region has limited access, and it is reasonable to assume that its distribution is more continuous than currently has been documented. That said, its distribution apparently is not very extensive. In Panama, Choco Tinamou is reported from eastern Darién in the Serranía de Jungurudó, at Cerro Pirre, and at Cerro Quia (Altos de Quía) (Wetmore and Galindo 1972, Robbins et al. 1985, Angehr et al. 2004). The known localities in Colombia all are from northern Chocó, including sites in and near Ensenada de Utría National Park and the Serranía de Baudó (Chapman 1915, Porteus and Acevedo 1996).

The elevational range of Choco Tinamou is from approximately 100-1500 m (Robbins et al. 1985, Angehr et al. 2006).

Distribution outside the Americas

Endemic to the Americas.

Habitat

Choco Tinamou inhabits humid lowland evergreen forest, often in low hills or steep terrain (Wetmore and Galindo 1972, Porteus and Acecedo 1996).
