Priorities for Future Research
Introduction
Coppery-chested Jacamar is an uncommon bird that occurs only in a restricted area. Not surprisingly, the natural history of this species is almost completely unknown. There is very little information on its diet, foraging behavior, or nesting biology. Perhaps the highest research priorities, however, are to search for Coppery-chested Jacamar at additional sites to document it distributional limits (especially in Colombia and perhaps in northern Peru), to investigate demographic aspects of its biology (e.g., age at first breeding, life span and survivorship, dispersal, population regulation, territoriality and population density), and to better document its habitat requirements.
