Introduction
A small, reddish bronze hummingbird of northern Peru, Coppery Metaltail has a short, thin bill, which can appear to be slightly upturned, as is typical with the genus Metallura. Common within its restricted range, this hummingbird occupies the edges of elfin forests and scrub bordering boggy grasslands, usually above 3,000 meters in elevation. Not much is known about the behavior and biology of this flashy species. The greatest threats to Coppery Metaltail are habitat disturbance and fragmentation, although human density remains low in the remote habitats where this species occurs, and currently its population is believed to be stable.
