Introduction
The Creamy-breasted Canastero is a medium-sized furnariid found in arid scrub habitats in the Andes of western Peru, northern Chile, western Bolivia, and northwestern Argentina. The Creamy-breasted Canastero exhibits significant geographic variation. All populations are approximately the same size, and show, to varying degrees, a tawny or rufous rump; but several populations are very distinct, and almost surely represent distinct species. This canastero is common or fairly common in many parts of its range, but some populations are geographically isolated and occupy only small geographic areas, and so their conservation status is a matter of concern. Also, although this species is relatively common and widespread, many aspects of its basic natural history are poorly studied or are completely unknown.
