Conservation
Conservation Status
Crested Duck is perhaps the most common duck in the Puna zone, in Tierra del Fuego and it is abundant in the Falkland Islands, especially around West Falkland (Woods 1975). Crested Duck has been evaluated as Least Concern (BirdLife International 2014).
Effects of human activity on populations
Sensible hunting practices and preservation of wetland habitats are essential to ensure that Crested Duck remains common. Current, sharp increases in mining activity in the Andean regions of Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Perú threaten valuable habitats.
