Conservation

Although Dusky Nightjar has a restricted geographic distribution, its population trend is believed to be stable. Consequently its IUCN Red List conservation status is evaluated as of Least Concern (BirdLife International 2014).

The relative abundance of Dusky Nighthjar is assessed as locally common in Costa Rica (Stiles and Skutch 1989), although it is considered to be uncommon within its more restricted distribution in Panama (Ridgely and Gwynne 1989).

Effects of human activity on populations

No threats to Dusky Nightjar are identified by BirdLife International (2014).
