Introduction

The Dusky-tailed Flatbill is a rare flycatcher of western Amazonia, only found in small areas of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil. The species prefers bamboo thickets or other understory within humid lowland forest below 900 m. It is olive brown overall with yellow-streaked underparts and rusty edging to wing coverts, tail, and flight feathers; overall it is similar to the smaller Large-headed Flatbill (Ramphotrigon megacephalum), but that species has a higher contrast face pattern and is largely unstreaked below. Dusky-tailed Flatbill often is detected by its whistled call that initially descends before ascending at the end.
