Introduction

The Emerald Toucanet is a small toucan of highlands in Central and South America.  It is green overall with a black bill and varying amounts of yellow on the maxilla.  Emerald Toucanets typically forage on fruit and small vertebrates in humid forest, frequently moving together in small flocks. The Emerald Toucanet consists of at least seven well differentiated groups, which differ in plumage and to some extent in bill color over its large geographic range, from Mexico south to the central Bolivian Andes; however, vocal differences between groups have not been described, and further investigation of geographic variation in the Emerald Toucanet is recommended.
