SPECIES

Galapagos Flycatcher Myiarchus magnirostris

Diet and Foraging

Diet

Poorly known, although primarily arthropods, including caterpillars and other sedentary arthropods and flying insects. However, the flycatchers regularly eat fruits of Tournefortia spp., especially T. rufosericea, which they usually obtain by hover-gleaning. Because its habitat often is low in stature, the Galapagos Flycatcher typically forages 1–3 m above the ground. Joseph (2004) also mentions that it may “settle on ground to search upward into overhanging vegetation, more than other members of genus.”
