Introduction

The Green-breasted Mountain-gem is a hummingbird species found in central Honduras and northwestern Nicaragua. It is closely related to the parapatric Green-throated Mountain-gem (Lampornis viridipallens) of western Honduras, northern El Salvador, Guatemala and southeastern Mexico. Like other members of the mostly Central American genus Lampornis, it is found at higher elevations, mainly cloud forest and pine-oak forests with large flowering shrubs in the middle layer. As might be expected, in view of its restricted geographic distribution, very little is known about the natural history of the Green-breasted Mountain-gem.
