Sounds and Vocal Behavior

Vocalizations

The call is described as peee-u. It is shorter and more Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia)-like than the Black-crowned Palm-Tanager’s (Bond 1928). During breeding, vocalizations include an extended melodic song and, rarely, a whisper song described as “canary-like” (Latta et al. 2006). A recording attributed to Gray-crowned Palm-Tanager, but recorded in the Dominican Republic (where this species is believed to be very rare or only a vagrant; Keith et al. 2003), is ML 16317.

Nonvocal Sounds

None described.
