Sounds and Vocal Behavior
Vocalizations
The song of the culicivorus group (Central America) is described as "a simple, slightly plaintive, rich warble ending with a strongly up-slurred note: swee-twee wee twee wee-chu or chew chew chew si-wi seeu" (Howell and Webb 1995). Calls include "a hard, dry, wren-like tak or chik, often run into a chatter; also a prolonged, more liquid, churring rattle" (Howell and Webb 1995). The song of the auricapillus group (South America) is described as a "high, thin, chattery song, pits-seet-seet-seet-seet or seet-seet-seet-seet-SEET-sit or [similar], stronger toward [the] end" (Hilty 2003). Calls include "chipping pits and buzzy vreet" notes (Hilty 2003).
Additional vocalizations of Golden-crowned Warbler can be heard at Macaulay Library and at xeno-canto.
