Distribution

Distribution in the Americas

Golden-bellied Starfronlet is restricted to the northern Andes of South America in Colombia and Veneuzela, with populations in the Sierra de Perijá on the Colombian/Venezuelan border, in the Andes of Venezuela, and in the eastern Andes of Colombia. Its elevational range is from 1400 to 3200 m. In Venezuela, there may be elevational migrations, with birds moving upslope during the rainy season (Hilty 2003).

Distribution outside the Americas

Endemic to the Americas.

Habitat

Coeligena bonapartei inhabits humid forests and forest edges (Hilty and Brown 1986, Hilty 2003). Also it is found in dwarf forests and open terrains with scattered vegetation (Züchner 1999a, b).
