Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

Population studies are needed to fully understand the life history of Golden-bellied Starfrontlet. It is important to address issues such as population density, longevity, sexual behavior, reproductive success, breeding, survivorship, dispersal and habitat use and selection. Also it is need to clarify the phylogenetic relations between the three subspecies of Golden-bellied Starfrontlet, and between these taxa and Blue-throated Starfrontlet (Coeligena helianthea). In addition, Golden-bellied Starfronlets seem to accept habitat disturbance by humans (Züchner 1999a,b) but since it is not clear how much are they affected by human activities, studies in this direction are needed.
