Sounds and Vocal Behavior

Vocalizations

The voice is described as ‘gra, gra, gra’, smother than the voices of Aratinga parakeets (Sick 1997). Before leaving a perch, most individuals in the flock emit intense vocalizations and in flight the flock can be heard from a large distance before crossing overhead. During the post-reproductive period, juveniles emit a more strident begging ‘keh keeh keeh’.

Nonvocal Sounds

None reported.
