Behavior

Introduction

There is little information on the behavior of Gray Thrasher. As is the case with other species of Toxostoma, it primarily forages on the ground or in the understory (Howell and Webb 1995, Parker et al. 1996). Typically they are skulking, remaining within vegetative cover, but often sing from a high, exposed perch (Howell and Webb 1995).

Territoriality

Little information. Gray Thrasher shows site fidelity (Cody 2005). Territory size varies from 1.5 ha in coastal scrub to 2-2.5 ha in thorn-woodland (Cody 2005).

Sexual Behavior

Little information; Gray Thrasher presumably is at least socially monogamous.

Social and interspecific behavior

Gray Thrasher usually is solitary or in pairs.

Predation

Little information. Bancroft (in Bent 1948) suspected that gopher snake (Pituophis) is a predator on Gray Thrasher nests.
