Sounds and Vocal Behavior
Vocalizations
The song of Green-backed Sparrow is described as "a variable series of (usually) 3-8 rich chips, usually with 1-2 introductory notes" (Howell and Webb 1995). Compared to the song of Olive Sparrow (Arremonops rufivirgatus), the song of Green-backed Sparrow has a richer introduction and chip notes, but the pace of chip notes does not accelerate noticeably, as does the song of Olive Sparrow (Howell and Webb 1995).

Calls of Green-backed Sparrow include "a sharp tsik or sik, and a thin sssirrr", and, at least in twomeyi (and perhaps also in nominate chloronotus?) a longer ssi-i-ssir; all calls are similar to those of Olive Sparrow (Howell and Webb 1995).
Additional audio recordings of vocalizations of Green-backed Sparrow can be heard at Macaulay Library, at xeno-canto, and at Internet Bird Collection.
