Introduction
Gray-naped Antpitta is endemic to the Andes of Venezuela, where it is a shy and poorly known bird of dense forest undergrowth, especially where there is bamboo. Despite its small range, two subspecies are recognized, but the differences between them are subtle. Gray-naped Antpitta has a dark brown crown and upperparts, broken by a gray eyeline and nape patch, while the rest of its plumage is deep rufous chestnut. It is a small- to mid-sized Grallaria, and it appears to replace Chestnut-crowned Antpitta (Grallaria ruficapilla) at higher elevations (above 2300 m). Gray-naped Antpitta is very poorly studied, with almost nothing known about its habitat preferences, diet, or reproduction.
