Conservation Status
The IUCN Red List conservation status of Highland Tinamou is assessed as Least Concern, in view of its wide geographic range (BirdLife International 2014). Nonetheless, the population is suspected to be in decline. The relative abundance of Highland Tinamou is assessed as uncommon in Costa Rica (Stiles and Skutch 1989), uncommon in Venezuela (Hilty 2003), and rare to locally uncommon in Ecuador (Ridgely and Greenfield 2001a).
Effects of human activity on populations
Highland Tinamou is dependent upon humid montane forest. The primary threat to this species is loss or fragmenation of this habitat due to clearing for agriculture and livestock grazing, but locally hunting also may affect populations of this species.
