Breeding

Introduction

The reproductive biology of Hooded Tinamou is almost completely unknown, but probably is similar to that of the closely related Highland Tinamou (Nothocercus bonapartei); in Highland Tinamou, the male is polygynous, several females lay their eggs in a single nest, which are incubated by the male. A female specimen collected in southern Peru in October contained an egg "ready to lay" (specimen, Field Museum of Natural History).
