Diet and Foraging

Diet

Horned Screamers are herbivorous birds that feed by two methods: grazing and digging. Grazing is a much more common method than digging. Plants that they feed on include Hydrangea spp., Eichornia crassipes, Polygonum hispidum, and Paspalum dilatatum, Artemisa absinthium, among others. They are most likely to be seen feeding in mid-morning while walking or wading across their home range (Naranjo 1986).
