Priorities for Future Research
Introduction
Although Ladder-tailed Nightjar is very widespread, is common, and occupies open habitats, surprisingly little is known about its life history. Its diet is not described in any detail, and there is only very basic information on its nesting biology. There also is little or no information on such topics as territoriality and population density, dispersal, life span and survivorship, and molts. Geographic variation in Ladder-tailed Nightjar also merits a further review, with particular attention to populations along the lower Amazon. Efforts to quantify the Ladder-tailed Nightjar population would help to better assess its conservation priority.
