Breeding
Introduction
Little information, except for the brief observations of Skutch (1966) and of Rowley (1984). Rowley (1984) reported nests from Oaxaca, Mexico in May and June, and Binford (1989) reported a "prejuvenile" from that region from November; Binford (1989) further noted that in Oaxaca the Lesser Ground-Cuckoo breeds during the local rainy season. Skutch found an active nest in Guatemala in July (Skutch 1966); breeding in Costa Rica is from February-May (Stiles and Skutch 1989).
The nest is a shallow bowl of sticks (Skutch 1966) or of "dried rachises of compound bi-pinnate ovate leaves of the eardrop tree (Enterolobium cyclocarpum)" (Rowley 1984). All known nests have been placed on the ground (Skutch 1966, Rowley 1984). The clutch is two; the eggs are white and unmarked (Skutch 1966, Rowley 1984). Both sexes incubate (Skutch 1966). There is no information on the length of incubation or of the nestling period.
