Diet and Foraging

Diet

Diet consists mostly of beetles and their larvae, ants (Crematogaster, Camponotus, Azteca) and their larvae, caterpillars, and orthopterans, frequently harvested from Cecropia trees. Though mainly an insectivore, Lineated Woodpecier also consumes fruit and seeds of heliconias and Clusia rosea (Skutch 1969).
