Introduction
Maroon-fronted Parrot is a large long tailed green parrot, resembling a small macaw in size and shape. This parrot is primarily bright green, with dark brownish maroon forehead, supercilium, and lores, and bright red carpal patches and thighs. The tail is long and strongly graduated. Maroon-fronted Parrots nest colonially in cavities and crevices in tall limestone cliffs and feed primarily on pine seeds. This species is endemic to the northern Sierra Madre Oriental in northeastern Mexico, where it occupies coniferous and mixed coniferous-deciduous forests. Maroon-fronted Parrot is listed as Endangered by both the IUCN Red List and the Mexican government.
