Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

There is insufficient ecological and biological information about Rivoli's Hummingbird. Most of the remaining habitat for this species in Mexico, such as pine-oak and humid montane ("cloud") forests, now are restricted in the upper reaches of the mountains, or areas with difficult access, since much of this area has been opened up for agricultural crops, livestock, sand banks, and urban growth. Therefore, more studies are needed to learn more about the factors that affect the populations of Rivoli's Hummingbird, as well as learn more about their biology and to establish conservation or management programs and habitat restoration efforts.
