Breeding

Introduction

There is very little information on the breeding biology of Merida Flowerpiercer, other than the observations reported by Vuilleumier and Ewert (1978). They observed apparent courtship behavior at one site in 30 March (see Sexual Behavior), and, at another site, observed an adult feeding a fledgling on 1 April. Vuilleumier and Ewert also describe a nest, "most likely of this species", that was a deep cup of grasses and moss lined with Espeletia, and was placed in a clump of grass atop a 1.2 m embankment.
