Demography and Populations

Introduction

The population size for Merida Flowerpiercer has not been quantified, and while it is described as "uncommon" (Parker et al. 1996) relative to other Neotropical birds, it is believed to be stable and absent of any substantial declines or threats (BirdLife International 2016). Parker et al. (1996) categorize Merida Flowerpiercer as uncommon relative to other Neotropical birds with a center of abundance in the upper montane zone. No information is available on age at first breeding, life span, survivorship, parasitism, or population regulation.
