Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

Parker et al. (1996) list the research priority for the Merida Flowerpiercer as "Low" compared to other Neotropical birds. While the population is believed to be stable, quantitative data are needed to confirm this. Additional information is also needed on all aspects of its life history, especially considering only one possible nest has been described. Additional genetic information is needed to clarify its phylogenetic relationship to other members of the Diglossa carbonaria superspecies.
