Conservation

The IUCN Red List conservation status of Montezuma Oropendola is assessed as Least Concern (Birdlife International 2016). It received this categorization due to its large estimated range of 1,080,000 km2 and very large population.

Effects of human activity on populations

Montezuma Oropendola is tolerant of, and perhaps even benefits somewhat from, deforestation, as long as sufficient forest and advanced second growth remains for successful foraging and breeding.
