Moustached Antpitta Grallaria alleni

Thomas S. Schulenberg and Guy M. Kirwan
Version: 1.0 — Published July 13, 2012

Conservation

Moustached Antpitta was known from only a single specimen from 1912 to 1979, and was not reported again until the 1990s. Although now is known from several localities each in both Colombia and in Ecuador, it still has a small geographic range, and its distribution apparently is very local and fragmented. Consequently, the IUCN Red List status of Moustached Antpitta is Vulnerable (BirdLife International 2012).

Effects of human activity on populations

Like all species of humid montane forests, Moustached Antpitta is vulnerable to deforestation, forest degradation, and habitat fragmentation. Some areas included within its range, such as the upper Magdalena Valley, already are largely deforested, and forests in much of the rest of its range are under threat (BirdLife International 2012).
